FLAMENGO The myth. The cult. The living legend.

FLAMENGO

And for the first time in its epic history, a watch will be dedicated to it to commemorate the club’s victory in the Club World Cup which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

A limited edition series of 250 pieces in the club colours, red and black, with its legendary emblem featured on the dial at 3 o’clock, and a special case-back commemorating 30 years of victory.

…It’s the “Big Bang Flamengo”… And it bears Hublot’s name!

It has been a fixture in Rio de Janeiro since its creation in 1895…A real footballing giant, a cult, a living legend. It’s the most popular football club in Brazil. One of the most titled clubs in the country, both nationally and internationally. In 2007, the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro referred to it as “The red and black nation” in the city’s heritage! It’s the “Clube de Regatas do Flamengo” (known as Flamengo), THE Brazilian football club, based in Rio de Janeiro, founded in 1895.

At the outset, it was set up to take part in rowing regattas, a sport enjoyed by the city’s élite. The founders decided to fix the date of the anniversary of its foundation as the 15 November to coincide with Republic Day in Brazil. The football division was only opened in 1911, players trained on the Russel beach in Rio, and so began an epic story in the world of football: 32 times Rio State Champions (making it a record), 6 times winner of the Campeonato Brasileiro, holder of the Intercontinental Cup and the Copa Libertadores in 1981. Regarded as the most popular club in Brazil (it has stayed in the Campeonato Brasileiro de Clubes da Série A since its foundation), in 2000 Flamengo held ninth place in the FIFA ranking of the greatest clubs of the 20th century.

All the great Brazilian players have played for Flamengo. And the legend continues today with the superstar Ronaldinho who once again led the team to victory in the Taça Guanabara by scoring in the Campeonato Carioca back in February.
To celebrate this living legend and to commemorate its victory in the Club World Cup in 1981, the 30th anniversary of which takes place this year, Hublot has the great honour and privilege of dedicating the first official watch to the club. It is a 44 mm Big Bang in black ceramic, with a few subtle touches of red on the push-buttons, the stitching on the gummy alligator strap, and the indexes. The club emblem is featured at 3 o’clock and a special engraved case-back has also been specially designed for the occasion. In a nod to football match timings: a 45 min counter is at 9 o’clock, to mark half-time.
